Albany High Student Becomes School’s First to Receive National Rural and Small-Town Award
ALBANY, La. – Albany High School student Michael Kober has been awarded the National Rural and Small-Town Award by the College Board National Recognition Program.
Kober, a 16-year-old junior at Albany High School, became the school’s first recipient of the recognition program. Recipients of the award must have taken and performed well on the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10 or AP Exams. Kober scored 1410 on the SAT and 35 on the ACT, both first-attempt scores.
“We are very proud of Michael’s national recognition, as well as his long track record of high achievement in the Albany School System,” Albany High School Principal Sammie Lacara said. “We wish him continued success this school year and into his senior year. We know he has a bright future ahead of him.”
Kober has made all “A”’s on every report card since Kindergarten at Albany Lower Elementary School. He was a nominee for 5th and 8th grade Student of the Year at that school. He received first place in District 2 at the LHSRA State Literary Rally 2023 for Biology II, and he earned two “5” scores on his Advanced Placement Tests for Human Geography and Biology II.
Kober is the section leader for percussion in the Albany High School Band. He enjoys composing music and playing drums and piano. He also enjoys playing Dungeons and Dragons with friends, spending time with family and playing video games.
Kober said he plans to attend college and pursue a career in medicine.
